What Happened To Dad Bod, Is It Still What Women Want?

After a few long months of hiding in slouchy wool sweaters and five layers of clothes, the time is upon us all to show a bit of flesh again. As the weather gets hotter, the fear of showing their dad bods is beginning to take over many a scared chubby guy out there. Good news though, as it turns out that guys with a dad bod and a little extra fat in the midriff are actually still more attractive to women and tend to live longer.

The Benefits Of The Dad Bod

This trend’s been around for some time now and is good news for guys who don’t like to spend their lives in the gym: women just love you with a bit of a pot belly. If you don’t want to take our word for it, listen to an expert. Richard Bribiescas, professor of anthropology and deputy provost at Yale University, recently spoke about the actual health benefits and stronger appeal of being a little chubbier around the waist.

According to Prof. Bribiescas, men who gain a bit of weight after becoming fathers are more likely to attract female attention and less prone to suffer from heart attacks and prostate cancer. Corroborating his claims about the health benefits of being a little chubby, a 2008 study concluded that men who have high metabolisms are almost 50% more likely to die in any given year than those whose bodies burned up energy slower.

In his insightful book ‘How Men Age’, the professor claims that men tend to put on a bit of extra weight after they become fathers and, combined with a drop in testosterone levels as they age, they develop a stronger immune system.

What Makes Chubbier Dads More Attractive?

According to the Yale University Professor, becoming slightly chubbier makes dads more likely to invest more time in their family rather than searching for female attention.

Bribiescas says in his book: “One effect of lower testosterone levels is loss of muscle mass and increases in fat mass. This change in body consumption not only causes men to shop for more comfortable trousers, but also facilitates increased survivorship and, hypothetically, a hormonal milieu that would more effectively promote and support paternal investment.” It is probably this dedication to family and the feeling of security that women appreciate and love so much these days.

So, for the chubbier guys out there, now there is scientific proof that you can carry your dad bod proudly, and there’s really no reason to hide behind that huge towel when you hit the beach.
